Looking northward, the UOMAs are addressing the need to recover and recycle used oil and antifreeze materials in northern and remote Canadian communities.

They face huge logistic problems. Where and how to situate a regional collection facility. Long distances for collectors to travel. Communities accessible by winter roads only.

In Manitoba, MARRC partners with other Provincial Stewardship Programs to bring recycling solutions to Remote Northern Communities. The Association works with the First Nations and has been successful with projects that have taken place in St. Theresa Point, Churchill and Bloodvein.

In Quebec, SOGHU is partnered with other provincial stewardship programs (including paint, electronics, batteries and light bulbs) to work cooperatively in six Nunavik municipalities under the auspices of the Kativik Regional Government.
