Year-round collection facilities, easily accessible, are the cornerstone of Canada’s used oil and antifreeze materials program. However, there are challenges. It’s a messy business, and a location has to be equipped to properly manage these potentially hazardous materials.
British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan have all seen a decline in the number of facilities. However, the base is solid and each association is working to shore up any location that requires a conveniently located collection facility.
Manitoba’s network has matured at 95, and the association is working on adding more licensed facilities in Winnipeg.
Quebec continues to develop its network which currently has more than 1025 facilities.
New Brunswick and PEI have a total of 206. These include Port Authorities where ships in harbour can recycle used oil and antifreeze materials.
